The Gold Coast has been building more and more outdoor exercise gyms which is fantastic. It’s great that when you are out for a walk or jog, or after a swim just, you can stop by an outdoor exercise park and do some exercise.
I’ve tried out many around the Gold Coast personally and here are my favourite (and best) outdoor exercise gyms on the Gold Coast:
- Broadwater Parklands, Southport
- The Spit, Southport
- Rudd Park, Burleigh Heads
- James Overell Park, Southport
- Outdoor gym, Surfers Paradise
- Boonooroo Park Reserve, Carrara
- Glenmore Park, Ashmore
- Ken Mansbridge Park Outdoor Gym, Mermaid Beach
Read on below to see a map of my favourite outdoor gyms on the Gold Coast and some pictures and information about each one.
Broadwater Parklands, Southport
This is my favourite outdoor gym, it is my local one so I am a little biased towards it.
The equipment available here are pull up bars, dip bars, jumping boxes, and flat and inclined monkey bars.
Usually a popular spot, make some time to check it out.
The Spit, Southport
I only found this outdoor gym one by doing a Parkrun by here. It’s a little out of the way and I have only stopped by here on the way home from surfing at the spit.
It has all of the basic things you would expect at an outdoor gym, with a few extra things like the handstand stations and the rings.
Rudd Park, Burleigh Heads
Rudd Park outdoor exercise gym is a very similar outdoor exercise gym to the one at the Broadwater Parklands, but is much bigger and has about twice the equipment.
This is probably the best outdoor gym/callisthenics exercise gym on the Gold Coast. Here are some photos below which don’t do it justice.
James Overell Park, Southport
Positioned on the water adjacent to the rugby field Jame Overall Park, there is a lot of exercise equipment spread over approximately 100 metres of the walking track.
This is a good outdoor exercise option if you want to incorporate some jogging between stations to get the heart rate up.
Outdoor Gym, Surfers Paradise
Spread out along the Surfers Paradise beach front, you willl find different exercise stations which will give you a great workout regardless of fitness level.
Mix it up and do sprints between each of the stations.
Boonooroo Park Reserve, Carrara
Boonooroo Park Reserve has more than the minimum you would need for a basic workout, including chin-up bars, Aussie pull-up bars, dip rings, and some machines that would be suitable for the oldies.
Glenmore Park, Ashmore
Tucked just off the side of the road I found this by chance on one of my trips around the Gold Coast. Glenmore Park is a gem of a spot and I’ve pulled in several times between jobs for a quick workout.
With all the basic equipment this would be a good local park to have at your disposal.
Ken Mansbridge Park Outdoor Gym, Mermaid Beach
There isn’t much to this outdoor exercise gym, but its got the basics for a good workout. Once you finish up you can cool down with a swim in the beach!

Final Thoughts
Studies have shown that working out outside has many benefits over working out inside a gym including further lowering blood pressure and stress, sunshine, and alleviate insomnia (full list of benefits of outdoor exercise).
Get out there and enjoy keeping yourself healthy.
