I love rainy days. They are a great excuse to have a quiet easy day, catch up on some jobs and just have a relaxing day, I wish my kids had the same idea……
If either of them doesn’t get to burn some energy with play then they will start to go bonkers bouncing off the walls of the house.
Fortunately, there are plenty of free and paid activities for the kids on the Gold Coast when it is raining. Here is a list of my kid’s favourite rainy weather activities:
1. Indoor Play Centres
There are lots of indoor play centres dotted all over the Gold Coast, the play centre I take my kids to is Abrakidazzle in Southport. There are plenty more, just do a quick google search.
Most play centres have intricate mazes and fun challenges that will keep kids running around and burning off all of their energy.
2. Inflatable World
This place must be like cloud 9 for the kids. Jumping-castle-like things everywhere. There are two on the Gold Coast at Arundel and Burleigh.
Inflatable slides and obstacle courses, inflatable ninja warrior-like course, inflatable basketball dunk ramp and many more.
It is priced cheaply enough that you can take a couple of kids without breaking the bank – $10 for 4 year old and under, $16 for 4 years and above.
3. Indoor Climbing For Kids
Take your kids to an indoor climbing gym, this will be sure to burn more energy than a regular play in the park.
Your kids first time at a climbing gym will be both challenging and awesome, being able to climb up to the roof and then being able to lean back and come to the ground safely will give them a real buzz.
I’d recommend trying Game Over. They have a clip ‘n climb system that is safe and a lot of fun for the kids (and adults).
4. Trampoline Play Centre
These are all the rage now. You will have no trouble finding a tramp centre near you with a google search.
Super Performance Centre is one trampoline centre that my kids are a fan of. There is also BOUNCEinc that is very popular and are a favourite birthday party venue for the older kids.
5. 10-Pin Bowling
This is something that can keep both the kids and parents entertained.
10 pin bowling is a fun family game or something a group of kids would have a blast with.
There are plenty of options all over the coast, personally, when I go bowling with the family we just gravitate to the Surfers Paradise Tenpin in Cavil Avenue in Surfers Paradise which is excellent. Get the bumpers up and have a bowl!
6. Games Arcade
Put some credit on your kids’ cards and let them loose in the arcade. They will have an absolute blast choosing what games to play.
There are gaming arcades in probably every major shopping centre and in street arcades on the Gold Coast. I usually take my little one to Ticket Time at Australia Fair.
7. Go To The Cinemas
This is becoming less and less popular now between streaming services and covid, however, it’s still an option. If you looking for something to do and you don’t want to do anything either then this could be the option for you.
Make it an event, get some popcorn and a drink or a choc top.
8. Ice Skating
That you can go ice skating on the Gold Coast seems to be relatively unknown, but there is an ice skating rink near the middle of the Gold Coast. Gold Coast Iceland is a great place to take your kids to enjoy a day under cover, but make sure you bring a jumper and wear long pants.
You can hire your skates and have a blast slipping and tripping around on the ice rink. Make sure you call ahead to find out when the skating sessions are running as they don’t run all day.
Directions to Gold Coast Iceland, Bundall.
